Mediterranean Square

  • Alì Terme, Messina - Italy
  • Design proposal - 2000 architect/s - Marco De Gregorio

The renewal of a public square lacking character and almost a urban void , an important place in a village bordering the Ionian sea, it hides its tourist potential. The place demands a participation, not a radical transformation in its geometry but in its aspect and its meaning. The adopted solution has from the beginning been the use of the simple materials and its organic characteristics. Local materials, echo-sustainable and low maintenance, The wood, the sand, the pebbles, the volcanic earth. The spatial composition, nearly an artistic game of picturesque composition.
The vegetation, from the scents, the colours to the taste of the Mediterranean, sage and the almond trees.
